Day 21 of 35: Lisbon day 1
We woke today & explored our amazing B&B. It’s called “The Late Birds” in Lisbon (https://www.thelatebirdslisbon.com/homepage). The breakfast is bounteous & plentiful, & our hosts Carlos & Charles are gracious, accommodating, & super helpful. They’ve created a space which feels safe, luxurious, & homey all at once. We walked around the Bairro Alto neighborhood where we’re staying, & ended up at the Miradouro de São Pedro, a lookout over much of the city. It had a labeled map to show what you’re seeing, lots of food & drink vendors, & music. A hopping place & we had lots of fun people-watching & soaking up the views & atmosphere.
Lisbon is known as “the city of seven hills”, like Rome, but to its it feels more like it’s made of unending hills. Many of the streets are cobblestone & the sidewalks are ruled. This makes them beautiful but also quite slippery. Because of our age & assorted challenges, we found it took us about twice as long to walk anywhere in the city as Google maps said it would. We ended up having a late lunch & left- overs for dinner. The bed is great & we slept well.
